A large tower has appeared in the northern Highlands, seemingly overnight. Reports have gone out to numerous official channels, but none have taken much concern with it, given the commotion in the Broken Isles, as well as the invasions in the south. Reports of those going near the tower are scarce, with only a few returning to tell the tale. Others still claim that the villages near the tower have been experiencing strange disappearances of their own, with farmers and craftsmen vanishing in the dead of night. Some claim to have seen cloaked individuals ride across the countryside, with runed blades across their backs. These are certainly dark times for the people of the Highlands. The locals have sent a letter to the University, in hopes that someone might divine the dark tower's true purpose. For if they can't help these people... Who will?
((Howdy folks! Before you ask, YES we are doing the Silvermoon event as well. Just need to figure out the planning for that. And before you ask... Yes and no. This is not a Black Hills event, but it is tangentially related to the first one I did... 8 months ago. Also, happy Mac anniversary. We've reached one year of Mac. Also I want your input! Should there be more combat in this one, or should it be more of a puzzle kind of thing with mild mystery elements? Let me know! I will still need volunteers for possible NPC roles (Given that this'll be in the Twilight Spire... Tower... That raid in the Twilight Highlands, we're gonna need some.) as well as an assistant to keep things on track. I know I can be a bit longwinded... Anyways! Input people! I thrive off your data! Let me know what you think below!))
((Happy Mac Year! A little combat is always fun, not like, punching acres of zombies, but sporadic pew-pews work for me. Also I like puzzles. Doing math and punching zombies is not in my wheelhouse, but I think it would be cool to do puzzle-type things as a group to make up for my own derpiness in certain subjects. I have other accounts, so I can volunteer to rustle something up as an NPC as well. I don't know why I have zombies on the brain. It could mean anything or nothing.))
(( I'd be really into seeing some hardcore sleuthing to figure out...Puzzles and mysteries are fun! Though the battles are cool as well, I can totally see the twist acting in everyone's favor. It gives people a chance to work together and compile opinions to come up with ideas and conclusions. And gives us all headaches, but for a good reason! Work those brain gears!))
((Happy (belated) Mac-versary! Work's been really hectic lately IRL, so I'm sorry that I haven't been too frequent of a visitor to the forums. :/ I definitely would've made a much bigger deal of it had I realized sooner, because with everyone's membership anniversaries approaching (or have passed by now) I feel like that's a great reason to celebrate!
I like the idea of this event, and the introduction certainly piqued my interest! I definitely appreciate and encourage this type of ingenuity and especially, that you've taken the initiative to compile a new "adventure" for us to experience and enjoy!
It's only incidental that Mac's an Officer, folks! In fact, Mac's been doing these types of RP mini-storylines since before he was ever made Officer. (Just a little nudge in everyone's general direction, of course! ^_~ )
For my part, I'm interested in attending this whenever it does happen. I'm available at our usual event start times most days. If there's something I can do to help with the NPC'ing, I'm sure that I can find an alt or even - through MRP magic! - one of my Mains to use for supplemental character roles. Besides, my characters seem to have a lot of off-screen things keeping them busy these days anyway. A sad necessity, when I don't have the opportunity - and other times, desire - to roleplay as frequently as others seem to.
I'm also glad to see that you're intending this to be more "brainy" and puzzle-based as an event! I definitely love and actually miss being a "DM" with these sort of RP events. We are a University after all, chock-full of scholars with intelligence and expertise in myriad ways and means. Although, it's always been my opinion that we're not your typical University; We ICly exist in a fantasy world where swords and sorcery are par for the course. I like a bit of combat in my storylines, where it makes sense.
A suggestion, if I may, on the "puzzle" sequences... Perhaps "skill" /rolls might be a good idea, if you devise anything particularly brain-busting for the group! As a lifelong DM, one of the things I've learned is that you must know and realize the limitations of the OOC minds of your audience! :) And it's just no fun if everyone's standing around for 45 minutes to an hour, wracking their brains to figure out a cleverly laid puzzle to the point of frustration! I'm sure you know this already, as I've attended - and thoroughly enjoyed - many of your mini-events in the past! I'm just trying to feel useful and pass on some DM knowledge, I suppose... Don't mind me. lol
Anyway, I look forward to this and will keep my eyes and ears open for any updates! ))
((Howdy folks! And I appreciate all the feedback guys! I've been writing out the basic outline and it's looking AWESOME! For our newer members, I have prepared a small ballad in order to streamline the various Black Hills events that have occured before. http://stormwindu.guildlaunch.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11286757&p=38945633&gid=453663#38945633
Now! I've already posted the date which the event is to take place, so check your calenders! If anyone else wishes to volunteer, just post on this thread or contact me ingame!))
TONIGHT, SEE THE EVENT THAT WILL BEGIN THE GREATEST MACHARREN EVENT SERIES OF ALL TIME!
((Just listing the various new rolling rules and some of the old ones for our new folks!
New Trap Rolls!
In this Tower, traps are many and some require skill and dexterity! On certain traps, one must roll to escape certain death!
Here is how it works. In order for the group to pass, one personage of great agility must reach the lever in order to deactivate the traps!
/roll 10. If you score five and up, you may pass onto the next area. If you fail, the trap springs and you will need a medic!
/roll 20. If you score ten and up, you succeed! If you fail, return to the beginning and get a medic.
The rolls will double with each step, until you get to the lever!
Certain events might be changed by an individual's actions!
If you beat the DM's counter roll, SURPRISE!
Old Battle/Healing Rolls!
In this Tower there will be one battle. If you wish to fight, you must follow these rules of honor! For those who wish to cower in the corner, you may heal your stalwart allies if you wish!
1 = Critical Failure and you injure yourself with your incompetence! Minus one hit point.
2-4 = You miss your target!
5-7 = You get one hit in! Or conversely, you've healed someone for one Hit Point!
8-9 = You give them a wallop! Deal two damage or heal for two hit points.
10 = HOLY COW! There's nothing left to hit! Deal three damage or heal a limb back with three hit points.
See you all tonight!))
The days grow late. With the recent events occuring around the world, guards have become a necessity to safeguard the population of Stormwind. While the University is well defended by those who live inside its walls, there have been strangers wandering in the Shadows. In order to weed out these odd fellows, Ex-Colonel David Woster has called upon the staff to help discover the dark secret that lies on the streets of Stormwind University.
(( Greetings, my people! Now is the season of darkness, of death and the cold of winter rearing its ugly head. But who stands on the line to stop the forces of evil from swallowing all we hold dear? Someone else. No, on the homefront other terrors and mysterious circumstances are unfolding on the very grounds of Stormwind University itself! For the next couple of months, expect at the very least TWO events each month. With the Upcomming Release of THE GUARDSMEN, we're going to need a few volunteers for witnesses, clues and perhaps even the shadowy men and women, who are intruding upon the grounds! Please either post here, send In-game mail or whisper me, Macharren, in order to volunteer your services! ))
((AND NOW... THE GRANDEST CHAPTER IN THE LATEST MACHARREN EVENT SERIES, before the STUNNING mystery finalé. It's time to begin 2017 with a huge bang! The Men Who Built Them is coming up next week on the 6th! I will need some volunteers for possible antagonistic roles, but I understand if there aren't many takers. Not only will there be violence and intrigue, but the plot against the University and the conspirators behind it will be revealed!!! Also, I am going to need to speak with Amara, Mags, and any volunteers as soon as humanly possible. SEE YOU... OUT THERE! Also, remember to bring any and all cult disguises.))
