On the First Night of Horror
It was a normal and beautiful day in Stormwind. The sky was blue, the sun was shining, the critters were out and about, and the air was nice and warm with a gentle breeze. Alice sat with her friends and loved ones, enjoying the day with food, drinks, and chatter. With a smile on her face and a heart full of love, Alice was content with things, wishing the moment would last an eternity.
Then, almost as if on queue, a cold chill of air rushes through the area and then silence. Alice looks around, nobody is there, her friends are gone, the critters are silent, and the warm air is now frigid. A shadow begins to fall on the area and Alice looks up at the sky. A cloud, maybe? No, the sky had turned blackened, a shadowy abyss that even swallowed the sun. The scene around Alice also begins to fade into blackness. Alice started to feel the ground beneath her fade away as well, she was floating, weightless in a black abyss. Alice’s mutant eyes allows her to see clearly in the dark, but there was nothing to see in this abyss. Nothing at all.
Then… the laughing happened. A deep and sinister laugh. Alice knew this one well and it sent shivers of fear down her shadowy spine. A horrific black fish with several orange eyes swam up to Alice. Welcome to wonderland, Alice. We’ve been waiting for you. The fish spoke, but it’s mouth never moved. Alice knew right away who she was speaking to. “N’Zoth... You… You won’t win! If I can’t stop you… so-somebody will!” Chuckling. That damned chuckling capable of driving even the most steel-hearted warriors to the brink of insanity. Oh? Who would that be? I’ve already made a Dragon Aspect bend to my will, Titan Keepers have fallen prey to my influence, king and queens serve my plans, even the Light which is so precious to this world can’t shine through my darkened skies. Since my imprisonment by the Tyrant Pantheon, I’ve influenced and shaped the history of this world. Untold eons and millenia, all coiled around my tendrils. Alice felt sick, fear rushed over her despite her attempts to remain defiant. “This world won’t... br-break so ea-easily.” Alice struggled to escape this nightmare, to defy the Old God that hijacked her dream. Alice felt the weight of N’zoth on her. You think you can escape? That you or any one can defy me? Suddenly thousands of his orange eyes were all around the abyss, gazing at her. I AM A GOD!
Suddenly, Alice was out of the abyss… and in the nightmare. The horrific Stormwind she caught glimpses of now surrounded her as her scenery. Her friends and loved ones, twisted and contorted into horrific versions of themselves, but retaining enough to be recognizable. His eyes all over, on the buildings, in her loved ones, in the sky…everywhere. His laughter echoing throughout while the visions of her friends and loved ones taunted her. “You can’t escape.” “Give in like we did.” “He will save you, too.” “You can’t win against him.” “This world needs him.” “This world will fall to the coming threats without his corruption to save it.” “Accept Nya’lotha.” “Nya’lotha is your home.” “All hail the Black Empire.” “For Nya’lotha.”
It was becoming too much, her mind was starting to fracture. Alice let out a scream to rival even a Banshee’s. Suddenly, Alice awoke screaming in the Med Lab. She was drenched in sweat with fear throughout her mind and body. She breathed heavily and frantically as she calmed herself. “Is... is the nightmare over? Is this... Is this real?” Alice grasped her side, pain shot through her body. “This... this is real.” The nightmare was over. Or... had it only just begun?
