A report on Dueling Club.
Monday's Dueling club--an event hosted first for the students, then the teachers at a later time--was brought to a swift end November 11, 34 ADP when Antonio and Caleb, two evocation student's who's rivalry is infamous among the student body, got angry at each other during their match towards the end of the event. It started out innocent enough, both were following Emmy's strict rules and guidelines for magic in the club when Caleb disarmed Antonio of his wand.
Antonio, for some unknown reason, grew furious and lowered himself to the ground to grab a handful of dust and debris from the floor. He threw it at Caleb with harsh vigor, drawing blood around his eye, and damn near permanently blinding Caleb. Well, this went as you'd expect. Caleb also grew furious, and began conjuring up a large fireball in retaliation.
Emmy stepped in, warning them to stop this... but it came all too late. The fireball was launched, Antonio grew fearful, and deflected it with a ward... forgetting about the other students who were spectating the duel. It's trajectory wound up aimed for poor Stacy, the shyest of Emmy's students, who--thankfully--ducked just in time. When the fireball impacted the wall just behind her though... some of the masonry shattered and bits of marble scattered to the floor! What happened next was... shocking.
Emmy realized more drastic measures had to be taken. With a monstrous roar, Emmy unleashed a kenetic blast powerful enough to send Caleb and Antonio flying out of the ring, their trajectory angled towards an open spot with no students. They landed on the ground with an audible slam, and rolled off. Both sustained nothing more than minor bruising and a bit of whiplash--just as Emmy intended--but it was enough to get a very clear message across.
As the two students rubbed their heads and recovered from the blast, their gazes were met by Emmy, who said: "I could have sent you both into the wall... and those bruises you have now would have paled in comparison to the injuries you would have sustained." she pointed at Stacy, who's eyes were wide with terror, her timid form trembling uncontrollably.
"Imagine if that were her."
Caleb and Antonio, for a moment, seemed confused. They both rambled and stuttered, unable to articulate their thoughts. But one chain of words did make it through: "I don't- I don't understand..."
Emmy's eyes then narrowed. She stepped closer to them, leaning forward to loom as best she could. "Do you see the crater in the wall behind Stacy?"
Both looked on in horror, their eyes grew wide as the gravity of the situation hit them like a Caravan Kodo fleeing from a Wyvern.
"Do you see where it is, in relation to her head? Thank the almighty Titans she ducked!"
Antonio's gaze fell to the ground as though it were a sack of potatoes. A bit of dampness beginning to trickle from the edge of his eyes. "Miss Bluefire I- I'm sorr-"
"No! Both of you are talented evokers. I have seen this, and your potential. But damnit! You guys need to have more situational awareness! I understand both of you are angry at each other, but if you let your emotions lord over you, your magic will destroy you, and those around you!"
Both of the students fell silent after this, unsure what to say. Unsure what to do! They both greatly looked up to Emmy, but they couldn't help it. When they looked at each other, they only saw the person who ousted the other from play. They only saw the asshole who had to one up them at every turn. When they looked at each other, they were both filled with rage. A spiteful drive to surpass them in every field.
"Get out of my ring." Emmy growled. "And don't bother coming back. Not until you've settled this amongst yourselves with words. Not magic. Not assault. Words. I will speak with the Dean tomorrow. Prey to whatever gods you keep that you get to remain a part of this university after tonight..." She finished, raising up her posture and looking at the other students. "Class dismissed."
While many students do feel the force Emmy exerted was necessary to get the point across--Stacy Azuregale most notably--some were left questioning weather or not they continued to feel safe. This was a side to Emmy many individuals had never seen before. And if they were honest, it grew a healthy respect for her in them. Even if it was born out of fear...
