We Are Alice
Ugh, more robes ruined and torn. Sure Alice can mend then with shadows, but that’s just getting tedious and old. Alice needed something new, a kind of self-regenerating outfit. Alice put it on her bucket list and continued on with her life.
Exploration of the Void, this vast ever-changing uncharted dimension. Too bad it’s killer on the outfit. Oh well, it’s better than a hand getting nibbled on. Alice floated through the Void remembering her bucket list item. That self-regenerating outfit. Alice wondered if the Void had anything like that. With a new goal in mind, Alice set forth, wandering the Void for something fitting those needs.
Eventually, Alice found what she was looking for. Some type of Ethereal laboratory. Looks abandoned, but you can never be too sure. Alice moved carefully through the lab, coming across many Ethereal gizmos and oddities. Even some biological experiments. Though one door caught her eye. “Experimental Armor Lab.” Jackpot! Alice entered the room and looked around. Nothing really caught her eye expect something titled “Subject SYMB-V.” What was that? Alice peered closer. It was some gooey sphere. The sphere was an abyssal black except for the center, which glowed a dim purple. Interesting, how was this supposed to be armor? Alice reached out for the sphere and it suddenly latched onto her hand! It quickly spread up her body, covering her completely!
When Alice opened her eyes, she had a new outfit. Sleeveless purple robes with a silver trim, purple cloth gloves with silver metallic frames holding Voidstones on the tops of her hands, a belt of small tendrils coming out of a midnight blue gem, and black wrappings on her feet. Alice admired the new look. Time to take this baby for a test drive.
After her test drive Alice noticed the new threads would repair themselves if damaged, they also seemed to lessen the strain magic took on her body and mind, especially when her magic backfired and hurt her. Though, from time to time, Alice noticed a new voice on her head. It didn’t seem to be one from the Void, though. Alice shrugged it off as her anxiety and paranoia. Eventually, Alice even discovered the outfit could morph itself! Turning into new outfits for quick-time changes and even helping Alice with her body morphs. It seemed to be responsive to her thoughts.
As time passed, Alice grew more and more used to the new suit. It was certainly a nifty thing and she wondered if it could be replicated to provide similar outfits for her friends, allowing for them to have easier attire changes and helping them the way this one helps her. But then Alice started to notice something. The new voice got louder, more noticeable. It definitely wasn’t a Void Voice or Whisper. As when Alice asked the Voices, they told her it was foreign to them as well. Alice took note of this and heeded with more caution on this mysterious voice. Though not too much caution, as the whispers were mostly trying to get her attention.
One day though, as Alice was on a stroll, the voice spoke again. “Alice, we need to talk…” Just then, Alice was turned towards a body of water, her reflection was both her and… not her. Alice then realized her suit was aware! Before Alice could shout and try to free herself, the suit spoke again. “My name is V’opoth. I am a Symbiote of Shadows.” Alice remained as calm as she could and let the reflection continue. V’opoth tells Alice that her Void energy and lifeforce was the last reagent needed to complete it. As the name implied, V’opoth was an entity that could not exist on its own and needed a host to attach itself to. Together they are complete, Alice literally completes it, and it can help complete her. Alice’s Void energies keep V’opoth fed and alive, in return V’opoth acts as an armor for Alice. V’opoth states to Alice it would not interfere with her daily life too much or try to take control of her and make her a meat puppet. It just wanted a home, a partner that wouldn’t abandon it like the Ethereal scientist. Alice sympathized with the creature and accepted its offer, letting V’opoth stay bonded with her.
Moving forward, Alice noted the pros and cons to V’opoth. The self-repairing and changing armor was splendid, as was V’opoth helping take some of the physical and mental strain Alice’s magic took on her. But V’opoth also seemed to keep Alice’s Void levels in better check. Her shadows stopped jumping to things unintentionally, she wasn’t at as much of a risk of being walking corruption. Alice also noticed her body morphs were a bit easier to pull off and maintain. Though there were cons to V’opoth. The creature seemed to have a strong weakness to fire, though Alice’s Voidflames did not seem to bother it much, must be it’s Void-based nature. But it also seemed to have a minor weakness to high-pitched sonic sounds, garnering a more powerful reaction to Holy Hymns. So that’s how Worgen feel when they hear a dog whistle. V’opoth also drained Alice of her energy, causing her to get tired and needing to retreat into the Void or some shadowy corner after too long or expending too much energy in order to recharge herself. After weighing her options, Alice decided she would keep V’opoth around. The pros outweigh the cons. Over time, even the Voices learned to coexist with V’opoth. The Whispers on the other hand… not so much.
