Stormwind University Overview & FAQ
General Guild Overview
Welcome, and thank you for your interest in Stormwind University! This short guide is here to let you know a little about us, and hopefully answer some initial basic questions.
We are a Heavy RP guild on the Wyrmrest Accord server. Our overall storyline is as follows:
The History of Stormwind University:
Originally led by Alonis Marris, Stormwind University was a respected and venerated institution in Stormwind for many years. Unfortunately, it was completely destroyed, along with almost all of its faculty, during the razing of Stormwind at the end of the First War. His daughter, Suzanna, in an effort to carry on his legacy, rebuilt the campus. Using secondhand information overheard as a child and a collection of old and half-burned documents, she gathered the greatest minds from around Azeroth and organized them into a working academic organization.

Stormwind University Today:
Upholding the traditions and legacy of the Marris’, Dean Amara Crowelley leads the faculty in ensuring each student receives the finest education from the best teachers from around Azeroth and Draenor. The University has become known for it’s weekly Literary Conclave and monthly Ambassadorial Education Tours under Dean Crowelley’s administration.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Will I have to teach courses?
While we do roleplay as faculty, actual Roleplay Teaching is entirely up to you. We have several members who do offer classes to the masses (Pommie’s Pet Battle Class, Fangleford’s Theater Class) in addition we sponsor a monthly Colloquium to foster game lore and knowledge. Opportunities to lecture on your chosen subject may present themselves! That being said, you teaching a class can be completely off-screen and only referenced at our social gatherings or in your forum writings. Storylines are completely up to you and we do encourage your creativity. If you’re not sure something is in line with our University theme ask your Department Head!
We're pretty open to a variety of storylines, and the only limit is your imagination. :-)
- Who are your students?
Since we're all playing faculty, our students are primarily non-player characters. During events we may have Alt characters playing roles as students. However, if playing a student is something you are very interested in speak to a Department Head. This is about having fun and we want you to enjoy your time with Stormwind University.
- Do you have any rules regarding attendance? Are you a casual or hardcore guild? How active do I have to be?
We view ourselves as an "active" Role-playing guild. What this means is that we're most interested in active members who we'll see regularly so we can maintain our interesting, dynamic, and fun atmosphere! We are, however, flexible as to just what "active" means. You can stay involved through playing and chatting with us in the game, attending or organizing events, posting stories and other things to the forums, and so on. So long as we see you now and then in the game, and you're willing to interact with us from time to time, we'll be happy. You should never feel pressured to log on or attend guild meetings - we want you to hang out with us because you want to, and because it's fun! One of our guild rules is that Real Life always comes first, so if you've got something going on that will keep you out of the game, just let us know and we'll completely understand. If we're concerned due to prolonged inactivity, or lack of any contact with us, we'll have a chat with you before any actions are taken.
-Do you have regularly scheduled guild meetings or events?
On a weekly basis we do have two events one private for the guild that is an IC social hour and one open to the public (Stormwind University Literary Conclave-Thursdays 7pm server). In addition, monthly the Ambassadorial Education series tours a city of Azeroth. We have also have a Colloquium series that provides lectures and demonstrations of various topics to the masses. Other events are placed on the in game calendar and advertised in the forums. Please refer to the Stormwind University Event Policy and speak to a Department Head if you’d like to host an in game event.
- Does your guild have any specific rules as to how I choose to RP?
Not really. We have rules regarding chat channels, but otherwise you can RP as you wish. A few things to consider, however. First, we're a friendly bunch, and are working on running a University - so PR is a bit of an interest for the leadership. Excessively evil or rude characters may receive the occasional "talking to" from Amara or one of the Department Heads, and should have a solid backstory as to why they're with us, and what they have to offer. That's not to say they aren't welcome, all of us have probably known a grumpy or antisocial professor or teacher! Just that they'll need to show why we're keeping them around despite their behavior.
Second, we're teachers, so tend to be a bit more socially minded. That doesn't mean your character should be a social butterfly or very talkative, but it would be nice to hear from them from time to time either in guild chat or during events! The "silent type" can sometimes be a bit overplayed in RP anyway. ;-)
-Do you have any set Roleplay locations?
We do! We consider the old Argent Dawn offices next to the cathedral our “office” and often roleplay there. In addition we host a weekly story conclave at the Gazebo every Thursday. Join us to hear stories told by both faculty and guests.
We also have a University campus map of what our university looks like IC as well as pictures of the various in game places we consider part of our university for the sake of Roleplay.
-What if I like to PVP or run dungeons/raids as well, do you do any of that?
We consider ourselves an Active Roleplay guild. When events or activities are not on the calendar many of our members will ask in our OOC channel if others would like to join them for these OOC activities. Roleplay is our main focus however. We do not raid progressively or even on a schedule.
-Are there promotion opportunities?
Currently, we are at capacity for officers however, we do have a unique promotion system available for your character to advance and grow. See our Guild Ranks & Promotion Policy for more information.
-What if I join and then need to take a break from the game (RL needs me more!)?
Real life should never be put second for us. If you need a hiatus or break from the game, please let us know with either a forum post or a conversation with one of the Department Heads. We can place your character a specific rank (linked above, Guild Ranks & Promotion Policy) designed for this very occurrence.
- This sounds wonderful! How do I apply?
To apply, return to the main page and click on the "Apply to Guild" link on the upper right hand corner. Answer all the provided questions, which will be automatically posted as an application on our forums. Once we've had a chance to review your application, we'll either extend an invite to join as a member, or let you know why we're denying the application. We'll look forward to hearing from you!
